Global EHS/ HSE Director
Our client is a global chemical leader with an impressive brand name and an excellent track record of growth and profitability. There now arises a need to hire a high caliber Global Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS/ HSE) leader to join their global management team. Location: Shanghai
The ideal profile we are looking for:
- Industries:
o Dangerous goods related industries, in particular, chemical companies. Example: Dow Chemical, Dupont, Akzo Nobel, Lanxess, Ashland, Celanese, Albemarle, PPG Coating, DSM, Honeywell, GE and BASF
- Titles:
o Global/ Asia Pacific EHS/ HSE Director
Key requirements:
- > 15 years of EHS/ HSE experience, with > 6 years of Asian experience
- Significant experience across EHS discipline
- Strong change agent/ role model experience. Driving global-wide changes and initiatives
- Strong leadership and people management skill
- Fluent in both English. Asian language will be a plus
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Creative and analytical thinking
- Persistent, goal/deadline driven work style
- A degree in EHS/ Supply Chain/Business/Engineering will be a plus
Key Objectives/Principal Accountabilities
- Being a member of global Business Supply Unit management team, participate in the development of the global BSU strategy and takes part in the monitoring of the execution of the global BSU objectives.
- Lead HSE target setting for the BU, in line with Corporate and BA programs and plans.
- Identify and prioritize the focused HSE improvement area across global BU and continuously drive improvements in the BU in alignment with the corporate guidelines, such as SAQ, behaviour based safety and process safety management programs.
- Act as the BU communication link between the Corporate and other BU's HSE Departments on the one hand, and regions within the BU on the other side.
- Build up the BU HSE network and organize the functioning of the BU HSE processes.
- Being a member of Asia Operations Management Team representing HSE; participate the regional strategy setting and monitoring the execution.
- Participation in regional HSE networks, share and implement best practice in the region.
- Drive focused HSE improvement in the region by working with site HSE team.
- Lead the regional HSE talent development
- Implement HSE related training, coaching, education for the BSU sites in the region
Job Context (Nature & Scope of the Business)
Regional responsibility: Global 40% + Asia Pacific 60%
- Set up improvement plan and monitoring the progress.
- Align BU HSE policies and procedures with the valid corporate rules and regulations as well as maintains the BU HSE Bluebook.
- Cascade the information throughout the BU about the newly-developed / revised corporate, BU HSE policies, directives and about the roll-out of the HSE programs.
- Promote and facilitates the exchange of good practices within the HSE field within the BU and maintain the BU HSE website on intranet.
- Maintain regular contact with the external HSE auditors and with the internal HSE organization and participate in selected committees, meetings, projects and conferences.
- Draft and submit the reports from the executed audits to the BU Management / Corporate HSE Department.
- Collect and consolidate the necessary HSE-related information as well as statistics (including, KPI reports) from within the entire BU and provide them to the BU Management / Corporate HSE Department.
