Suffice it to say, Max and Charley were onto something. As the years went by, they cleverly added newer, more innovative mats to the product range — never losing sight of their commitment to the standing worker. Our History
Wearwell was founded in 1950 (back then, we were known as Tennessee Mat) by two entrepreneurial gents who converted old discarded tires to high quality door and industrial tire mats. Through their use of reclaimed materials, Max and Charley began to build a "Green" dedicated to sustainability and the needs of the standing worker. As the years went by, they cleverly added newer, more innovative anti-fatigue mats to the product range — never losing sight of their commitment to the standing worker. Out of the post World War II '50s and into the era of the '60s and '70s they built the company, creating new mats and new equipment from scratch — desire and persistence guiding them along.
In the 1980's, Wearwell brought in new talent and began to get noticed by a much broader customer base. The Safety Revolution had begun. Taking care of workers and preventing accidents was at the forefront — where it belonged. We explained to the marketplace that safety starts with the floor you stand on — that all the goggles and gloves in the world don't mean much if you slip and fall on a wet, greasy floor. Companies understood the message and Wearwell mats took hold.
In the early 1990's, the Ergonomic Revolution took off. It was all about fitting the workplace to the worker and maximizing health and productivity. Wearwell anti-fatigue mats fit the bill perfectly, and demand for our safe and comfortable products rose to a higher level. As people intuitively began to recognize a universal need for matting in the workplace, Wearwell creating new and innovative products to meet the more sophisticated demands of the marketplace.
When Max and Charley retired in the late 1990's we took over. Most of us grew up locally and were already dedicated to the Wearwell vision of creating a safer, healthier, more productive work environment — an environment that respected the integrity and cares for the welfare of the standing worker. History is wonderful and we can be proud of ours. But the future is our focus. Your needs never stand still, so neither do we.
