Elevators Use of shatterproof lighting is mandated in elevators by the ASME (American Society of Manufacturing Engineers). Retail Fluorescent lighting emits UltraViolet (UV) light which degrades color pigments in textiles and paper. UV also can change the color and taste of food, as well as vitamin content. To combat the negative effects of UV, Shat-R-Shield adds ultraviolet absorbers to its safety coating formula which blocks 95% of damaging UV light. Ideal lighting products for retail environments include safety-coated energy-efficient T8 fluorescents and reduced wattage metal halides.

Cleanrooms Shat-R-Shield offers a line of safety-coated gold lamps which provide excellent task lighting but block out ultraviolet light entirely. UV light has a negative effect on certain critical processes like the manufacturing of computer chips and HVAC units to sterilize microorganisms like bacteria, molds, and viruses.

Libraries and Museums Ultraviolet light degrades color pigments in paintings, paper and textiles. It is paramount that these valuable materials receive the ultimate in protection from the harsh effects of UV light or broken glass.
